What is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese Medicine (known as Chinese Herbal Medicine, part of #TCM) is one of the greatest herbal systems in the world, with an unbroken tradition going back to 3000 years ago. Yet throughout its history it has continually developed in response to changing clinical conditions, and has been sustained by research into every aspect of its use. This process continues today with the development of modern medical diagnostic techniques and knowledge.

Chinese Medicine includes all oriental traditions emerging from Southeast Asia that have their origins in China. Practitioners may work within a tradition that comes from Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan or Korea. It is a complete medical system that is capable of treating a very wide range of conditions.

The traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine is very different from the western scientific approach we are accustomed to. Chinese Medicine promotes a healthful balance of yin and yang – two forces present in all of nature. When yin or yang forces or qi/energy levels are off-balance in the body and spirit, health problems arise. Chinese herbs and herbal remedies are used to help realign an individual’s yin or yang balance in order to improve overall well-being. Chinese Medicine's formulas include hundreds of popular organic ingredients that work in harmony to produce the desired effects in a person’s body. These ingredients are primarily of plant origin, and may include roots, bark, seeds, flowers and leaves. Each organic ingredient typically has unique characteristics (i.e. yin/yang balancing, qi/energy boosting, etc.) that are reinforced and harmonized in comprehensive ancient Chinese Medicine's formulas that have been passed down through the years.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is the substantial counterpart to the Acupuncture. Many people treated for internal disharmonies or chronic conditions can greatly benefit from the use of Chinese herbal therapies.
